There hasn't been a true city bike handlebar that accommodates inverse brake levers - until now.

The Velo Orange Belleville bar is a similar shape to handlebars found on Parisian Porteurs - no rise, a decent amount of backsweep and a comfortable wrist angle. It's narrow enough to negotiate heavy traffic but wide enough to steer a load of whatever it is you are carrying!

Made from highly polished 6061 aluminium it has an end diamter of 23.8mm so allows the fitting of inverse brakelevers or bar end shifters.

The grip area is about 110mm long and the stem clamp area is 25.4mm. the Bellevile Bar has no rise so it is completely flat.

Another classic city bike handlebar from Velo Orange!

It's a little wider at 470mm and there is about 20mm of rise. Graceful bends and sweep make this unique.

It's 6061 aluminum in that 23.8mm diameter that allows you to fit inverse levers or bar con shifters.

There is about 120mm of usable grip area. The stem clamp diameter is 25.4mm. It's finished in the distinctive Velo Orange silver polished finish

If you want to sit up and take in the view as you ride; buy these! If you want to get your head down and grind away at the pedals then you can too!  (but drops are better for this!) They look cool too!

These have a greater backwards sweep than the Trekking Bar below and are perfect for Cargo, Town, Touring and Hybrid Bikes.

25.4mm clamp area and 610 mm wide. Silver alloy. 22.2mm ends for regular flat bar brake/gear shifter clamps.

We spec these on our Surly Big Dummy full-build longbike and think they are a brilliant compromise between riser bars and full swept back bars. If you want to sit up and take in the view as you ride; you can. If you want to get your head down and grind away at the pedals then you can too! They look cool too!

25.4mm clamp area and 610 mm wide. Silver alloy. 22.2mm ends for regular flat bar brake/gear shifter clamps.

Not dissimilar to the Nitto Moustache bar and a fair bit cheaper too!

  • 23.8mm brake lever clamp diameter
  • 47mm drop/rise
  • 140mm reach
  • Bar Clamp Diameter: 25.4 mm (use a shim of road stems)
  • Weight: 346.0 g
  • Color: Silver

The brake diameter on these means you need to use drop handlebar brake levers - which look cool!

The bars can be 'flipped' to vary the rise.

Superb alloy bars that combine the variations in hand position of road 'drop' bars with the controlability required for riding the trails.

We were first tuned into these bars when we started riding the Salsa Fargo (a sort of cross between a touring  bike and mountain bike).

We think these bars are great way of adding a bit of variety to your riding - stick them on a tough touring bike and take it to the trails every now and again! We also think they could be a Practical handlebar to fit to the Surly Big Dummy...

Having used them, we think they are better than just for the trail or cross riding. We see no reason why you wouldn't fit these to a regular touring bike, tandem, commuting steed or expedition bike. Becasue of the nice wide area on the drops it means you can climb whilst on the drops but still keep your chest 'opened up' so that you can breathe freely. We recommend that to get the best results from these bars you have a higher stem - but it's not a necessity. What we do say is get some and play around with new ideas on your bike!

Here's the Salsa science!

  • Bars bend along three planes to create extra wide lowers while keeping a shallow drop
  • Ergonomic design works well with integrated road shift/brake levers
  • Bar ends accept bar end shifters
  • Front cable groove for clean cable routing
  • 80mm drop, 110mm reach, 38° drop angle
  • Black bead-blast finish
  • OS bars are 7075 T6 alloy (£58.99)
  • 25.4mm bars are 6061 T6 alloy (34.99)

These bars are available in two widths 42mm and 46mm - each width also comes in 25.4mm or 31.8mm (Oversize) clamp area - please choose from the menu below.

Designed by the legendary Jeff Jones (don't say "who's Jeff Jones?" in the company of any serious mountain biker - you were warned!) These bars, although designed for mountain bike use, should serve you well if you plan on doing any touring, trekking or around the world rides. Why?

The bars offer various hand positions - see the animation of this on the Jeff Jones website. This means that you can minimise the pressure on your hands and thus releive the dreaded ulnar nerve numbness - if you've had this you will know how bad it is! The swept back outer bar area is also good for hill climbing - it somehow feels like it gives you better leverage. The front extensions allow for a more forewards seating position - handy for getting down low into a headwind.

Titec purchased the license from Jeff Jones to reproduce these bars (Jeff only produces them in Titanium) so that the masses can appreciate their goodness.

Here's the beardy science:

  • Width of 660 mm, an 8 degree front sweep and a 4 degree up sweep along with a rise of 2 inches
  • Made from 6061-T6 aluminium
  • 25.4 mm stem clamp size
  • Weight: 430 grams

The 'J' Bar is also available (below) this has a 31.8mm clamp area and ZERO rise.

Do you have/get numb hands, pins and needles and aches when you go on long distance rides and multi-day tours? We used to have this problem too!

Whilst all these symptoms can be a result of other things such as the wrong size bike, wrong position on the bike or generally something more sinister (gulp - see a quack!) - they can be simply because your current bars have few or no alternative positions for your hands to rest. For, when you are cranking along merrilly, you may be holding your hands in one position for several hours. This can play havoc with the Ulnar nerve in your hand (which is roughy where the palm of your hands would rest on a straight bar or on the 'flats' of drop bars. The solution is to change the position of your hands every so often to relieve pressure on one point.

These excellent quality BBB butterfly bars offer various hand positions. They are called Trekking Handlebars because that's what they are primarily designed for - long distance touring. However we see no reason why they shouldn't be fitted to a commuting bike, town bike or hybrid. Think of them as medicine for aching hands, neck and shoulders! If trekking bars are good enough for round the world cyclist Mark Beaumont then they are good enough for us - and you too probably!

  • The bars have a 25.4mm clamp area
  • Overall width is 57cm (at the widest part)
  • There is a slight rise of about 20mm on the bars overall
  • Works with flat bar type brake levers and shift levers (not road levers or bar ends)
  • Weight - aprox. 650grammes

We recommend adding BBB Multifoam Grips on these bars.

This adjustable stem from Humpert of Germany allows you to alter the angle/height of your handlebars by around 50 degrees. A simple allen key nut on the underside allows the angle to be dialled in.

This is good news for people with neck or back problems as it can give you a much more upright riding position and thus take away the pain!

This 6061 T6 alloy stem fits 25.4mm steerer tubes (1 1/8 inch) and the handlebar clamp area is also 25.4mm (most regular mtb and hybrid handlebars).

110mm reach - available in silver or anodised black - choose from menu.
